Overview
General Surgery is a surgical sub-specialty dealing with the surgical treatment of organs. MS General Surgery is a three-year postgraduate Medical program devoted to teaching students various diseases and accidents related operating procedures (commonly known as surgery). The program’s course work includes a balance of practical sessions and theoretical lectures that imparts knowledge on abdominal organs such as liver, stomach, colon, intestine esophagus, thyroid gland, and hernia. Students are prepared to perform diagnostic procedures as well as prevention and treatment under this program. Once the course is completed, aspirants gain the ability to practice the specialty for surgery in accordance with professional ethics principles. While gaining medical experience, the program teaches the students to effectively manage trauma patients. Those who have completed their postgraduate studies in MS General Surgery can work as surgeons in various private and government hospitals, which are among the most renowned medical professions. Applicants with an MBBS degree from a recognized institute who have permanently registered with India’s Medical Council or any other State Medical Council are eligible for this course.
Course Duration
MS General Surgery is a 3 years Prost Graduation Course which includes clinical and theoretical studies.
Course Eligiblity
Applicant must have permanent registration with MCI and should have done his/her MBBS degree from MCI recognized institute, the applicant who is continuing with the internship can also participate in NEET-PG exam but the internship should be completed before the commencement of the academic year i.e. 31st March.
Admission process
To get admission in MS General Surgery course the applicant has to appear for NEET PG Medical exam and have to qualify NEET-PG with required cutoff percentile prescribed by NBE in individual category i.e. for general candidates, it is 50th percentile and 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC candidates. After successfully qualifying NEET-PG exam the candidates has to go through NEET PG counselling conducted by State DME for state quota seats and MCC for All India quota seats. NEET-PG cutoff for MD Paediatrics is high for top private and government medical colleges, the NEET-PG cutoff for MD Paediatrics is moderate for some Deemed universities and private medical colleges, there are multiple quota applicable to these medical colleges like All India Quota seats, Management quota seats, Institutional quota seats and NRI quota seats, etc a student has to apply under suitable quota during NEET_PG counselling.

MS General Surgery course is offered by 145 government medical college in India, the total number of General Surgery seats in government medical colleges is approximately 2116 in different states of the country. Fees Structure
The MS General Surgery Fees for state private colleges starts from 16 Lakhs to maximum 50 Lakhs per annum. The MS General Surgery Fees in deemed universities vary from college to college. It starts minimum 18 Lakhs to Maximum 40 Lakhs per annum.
